The UK Law Society has warned British law firms to be aware of a recent scam where cyber criminals set up bogus websites trying to mimic top law firms.

According to the UK Daily Telegraph: “Cyber criminals are trying to con people out of millions by setting up bogus company email and posing as top lawyers”.

They go on to say that: “Fraudsters make subtle changes to website and email addresses to mimic top British law firms, in the hope of tricking people into making huge payments or sending sensitive personal information.”

It is believed the cyber criminals are from Russia, Nigeria, China, America and France.

Australian law firms should be aware of these developments to avoid a similar scam here. The best advice is to take extra caution and insist on dual factor authentication before any payments are made or sensitive data is shared.
