Australian Government Information Security Manual Updated

September 2019

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD)’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has released updates to the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM) in a bid to help all Australian businesses create a framework and set of principles to protect their information systems and networks from cyberattack.

The information Security Manual is founded on four main principals of cybersecurity.

  1. Govern
  2. Protect
  3. Detect
  4. Respond.

These four principles provide the backbone of any cyber efforts and contain the framework from which an effective cyber resilience strategy can be created

The ISM also contains a series of guidelines on practical steps to take to secure information networks and data and should be referred to when creating a strategy for cyber resilience and cybersecurity.
